That Bully Lady

...what is a Bully Lady?

Me! Bully breeds are my fancy! I have been working, showing, training, and more with bully breeds for many years now. I have developed quite a repertoire of knowledge and information on nutrition for dogs and cats along the way as well!

I'm not just a trainer and fancier though - I help people modify the behavior of their pets - humanely and with thought and purpose. Dogs are not objects, they are your friend and family member and should be treated with respect and fairness - but no free rides here - we work for our dinner!!

I am also a HOBBY breeder of the great American Staffordshire Terrier. Much dedication, work, and tears go into loving this breed and only breeding to make it better. Ultra-versatile and sometimes bully in nature, they will be a dog like you've never had before! I also recently acquired a Cane Corso Italiano working prospect - stay tuned for my adventures with the world's biggest puppy!

So, ask questions and don't be shy - I am here to educate, to vent occasionally, and to help with training and nutrition and whatever else comes up! Nothing I write here substitutes for the advice of your veterinarian, I am not a medical professional!

Getting started

Well, here I am - new to being a blogger.  Why am I here?
  • I love dogs (and cats and ferrets and this and that, you get the idea) and I am passionate about their training and care!
  • I am always giving out nutrition and training advice; I might as well publish it so others can benefit from it too!
  • I am really opinionated and I sometimes want to vent about things that really irk me - although this can be a serious downfall overall because I can, on occasion, jump the gun and hurt people's feelings - I will be working on that for sure!
  • I really love to educate people and this may be the perfect venue!
I look forward to my time here and I hope that others can find some benefit from what will be shared.

I need input from others on things that people want to know so please feel free to leave me comments that I can expand on.

Here's to the future!

  2. I've had this happen before too! Unless it is infected, you can wait for it to grow out a little bit to clip off the dead end. If it is red or inflamed at all, go to a Petsmart (or other pet store w/grooming space) or even the groomer at the vet and see if they have some of the numbing spray to spray it down first and then they (or you) can try to cut it off - they *may* even just charge you for a nail clip, which is around $10 or so. Good luck missy - kiss Jane for me and kisses to you too!

  3. Any theories about Jane ctaching the gophers in our new house? Do i need to worry about mosquitoes and do you know of a natural way to protect jane from ticks? Were out in the country and the mosquitoes are huge and there are just lots of trees and brush and shrubbery and I dont want to see her get sick for lack of knowledge! But im super excited that she'll have a big yard and lots of fun gophers to dig after! WOO HOO

  4. I totally soap boxed the poor insurance writer at progressive because i was trying to start renters insurance and they have a reject dog list and it is filled with breeds that have been played up in the media as being aggressive or dangerous. The had rotties, dobermans, pits, bull terriers, wolf dogs and a few others. Some insurance companies actually have am staffs on the reject list so i told the dork jane's breed and he said " we dont have a problem with terriers they're a small breed right?" I said only if 50lbs is considered to be small. He said are you sure your dog isn't a pit bull and i said yes and i have the paperwork to prove it. He was like well as long as you dont have a pit bull or anything dangerous like that then you're fine. They're going to send an inspector out to check to make sure i didnt lie on my policy, wanna place a bet on whether or not they try to cancle my policy because of Jane? Im so ready to go toe to toe with idiots like that. My poor Jane so misunderstood. SO then i asked who decides which breeds make it on to the reject list and he said he didnt know so I shared with him that the breeds on their stupid list are only there because the media has portrayed them in an agressive manner and that when with real human beings who care about them they are the most loyal, loving gentle dogs EVER! AND that smaller breeds are more likely to bite because they are timid! Poor guy he was all shaken up! Watch Out ignorant people, I'm comin for you! LOL

  5. I'll put up a seperate post for the ticks! Yay for Jane on getting to chase gophers!

Yay for you on the insurance company - hopefully they will not harass you when they see her... It would go a long way to get her Canine Good Citizen certificate (if she can pass). A list of evaluators can be found on the AKC website under the CGC tab - the requirements to pass are also there. Sometimes that will overturn a decision.

I just re-did my homeowners insurance and copped to having AmStaffs...I am waiting with baited breath to see if I will be canceled. It sucks we have to deal with such drama because of our choice of pet! Arg!

  6. Well I have someone locally who does the cgc but she is waiting for a larger test group before shes going to do it. I believe Jane would pass and I have her papers to say she isnt a pit bull but is actually am staff whcih isnt on the reject list. SO i told melissa that i would pull Jane;s paperwork out just in case they came by while she was home. Jane isnt there yet and wont be until i get her papers out, dont need the drama! I hope that it goes well tho for you and your homeowners insurance... Ill keep my fingers crossed!
